Sources For Supervisory Decisions
Supervisory decisions or measurements are based information from the following three sources: Records, Interviews and Observations. There are limitations with each one.
In the Control Process page, we spoke about developing a measurement system and the actual measurement. Here we are taking a closer look at the three platforms.
Records – All records and documentation should be timely and action oriented. Don’t wait to praise or scold an employee about something that happend two years ago.
Observations – Information collected through actual observing activities. There are physical limitations and mental filters which could get in the way.
Interviews – This is about two way communication between the supervisor and the employee. The issues here could be interpretation problems and limited time and frequency.
