The Business Managers

The Tale of Two Business Managers

When two Business Managers get the same information, often they take different action. Why?

To illustrate the point, let’s think of our manager as a computer processor. We feed the input; the computer processes the information and we get the action or output.

Our manager model is very similar. She gets information (input), absorbs (process) it, and formulates an action plan (output).

The difference is in how managers process the input. This is because each person has different

• Capabilities

• Life experiences

• Backgrounds

• Work Groups experience

• Interpretations abilities

An excellent example to illustrate this is when the same information input is given to a political conservative and a political liberal, they will act completely opposite.

Understanding this point improves the actions for the betterment of the company. Particularly today, our world is shrinking and more companies become global.

Senior management must be aware of this. Most importantly it affects their managers’ selection process. After all, their managers will be the ones who will produce the pre-determined objective through other employees.

Senior management can impact the processing system with the manager by adopting and adhering to one organizational management system.
