Interview Secrets for Managers

Interview Guideline: The Fail Proof Pick of the Best Candidate

This interview guideline is designed for managers whether they are in Human Resouces (HR) or not. Actually, it helps the line manager more than HR since HR only filters candidates based on the rudimentary “ picture” our manager built.

Preparing for a job interview is hard. Giving a job interview is harder; and too often it is not focused. This tool organizes for you the five things you MUST cover during an interview.

1. The Job Hisory: Find out the job history of the candidate; ask him to talk about his past, present and his ideal future job.

2. The Candidate Himself: Cover his own history, personal objectives achieved, education, outside interests.

3. Allow him to talk about others: Discover his attitude about his previous bosses, his subordinates, and his peers.

4. Discuss the company: Find what he thinks is positive or negative about the company, and why

5. Converse about the compensation: What are his expectations in relation to his contributions.

Afterwards:

Think about the job situation and review what you’ve learned in the first four steps. How does the candidate stack up based on the job situation and others.

Validate what you’ve learned by revealing his critical incidences.

This is a simple operation tool for collecting information needed to evaluate the candidate against the “picture”.
